The Bono. It’s What’s For Breakfast

Posted on Wednesday November 4, 2009 at 08:01 AM Add |

After a late night in Las Vegas watching Garth Brooks, Santana, Cher, Bette Midler, Wayne Newton, Barry Manilow or Lily Tomlin perform one of their residency shows, you’re going to need a hearty breakfast. Why not try a meal fit for a star like the Van Morrison tortilla wrap at Murphy’s Law Bar & Grill.

The Sin City restaurant has added eight new items to its breakfast menu with each of the dishes named after a famous Irish celebrity.

Singer-songwriter Van Morrison’s meal is described as “a pile of corned beef hash combined with scrambled eggs, bell peppers, tomatoes and cheddar cheese, wrapped tight in a garlic herb tortilla,” according to IrishCentral.com.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, Bono’s dish is the one for you. The Irish website describes the U2 frontman's item as “a thick layer of crunchy peanut butter and banana between two slices of fluffy white bread hand dipped in batter and fried golden, drizzled with chocolate syrup.”

A review on LasVegasWeekly.com notes that Bono’s namesake dish would make more sense if it was switched with Colin Farrell’s more health conscious menu item.
The Farrell dish features “fresh pineapple, banana, cottage cheese, granola, raisins and a hint of brown sugar, wrapped in a tortilla.”

The LasVegasWeekly.com writer explains, “The man has had a sex tape, been to rehab and littered tabloids with his female exploits. Colin Farrell is not supposed to be good for you.” On the other hand, “[Bono’s] item won’t save you from a heart attack, let alone save the world – much more fitting for the Phone Booth star.”

Other celeb menu items include The Liam Neeson, which includes “Texas toast topped with a seared sausage patty, grilled jalapenos, scrambled eggs and melted American cheese” and the Pierce Brosnan with “sautéed bell pepper, mushrooms, tomato, and onions folded gently in a tortilla with cheddar cheese and egg.” Gabriel Byrne and Peter O’Toole also have their own signature dishes.

If you’re not planning a trip to Vegas in the near feature but still want to get in on the celeb dishes, head to your local Denny’s.

The breakfast chain features a number of items specifically created by musicians on its Rockstar Favorites menu, available between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The newest Rockstar items includes meals dreamed up by Los Lonely Boys and Jewel.

Los Lonely Boys got busy in the kitchen and created the “Texican Burger” which Denny’s website describes as a burger “topped with grilled onions, Pepper Jack cheese, jalapenos, tomatoes and tangy barbecue sauce.”

Jewel worked with Denny’s head chef in New York to create the ultimate post-concert quesadilla. Jewel’s Acoustic Smoked Chicken Quesadilla features smoked chicken, a blend of cheese, avocado, spicy mayonnaise and pico de gallo.

Denny’s is also offering a few fan favorites from past Rockstar chefs. Last year Hoobastank combined BBQ chicken pizza and burritos to make the “Hooburrito.” The tortilla wrap includes crispy chicken strips, pepper jack cheese and onion crispers. The meal also includes a side of tortilla chips, cheese sauce and ranch.

Good luck leaving Denny’s without a nap after trying Rascal Flatts’ “Unstoppable Breakfast.” Denny’s site describes the item as “a biscuit topped with country-fried steak, eggs (guest’s choice), American cheese, country gravy and three strips of bacon, then topped off with a side of hash browns.”

If you were to create your very own signature breakfast meal, what would it feature?
