No Wynn For Brooks Resellers

Posted on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 03:01 PM 10 |

A Garth Brooks fan who purchased tickets for the country superstar’s upcoming comeback at Encore Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas was left with a sour taste in his mouth over ticket policies.

The fan, Mike Napier, told the Las Vegas Sun that the day after purchasing four tickets a Wynn employee called asking for the names of all four members of his party, explaining the order would be canceled otherwise.

“If I would have known ahead of time, that would have been fine, but to get a call at the eleventh hour saying you must provide names or your tickets will be canceled was just poor customer service and very unprofessional,” Napier said.

Along with asking for names of all members of a party, the Wynn policy states tickets are only available for pickup at will call day of show and fans must enter the concerts with their entire party and be prepared to show ID.

The policy also explains that Wynn reserves the right to cancel any ticket found to be purchased from a reseller in excess of face value.

Of course, ticket brokers had something to say about the rules.

“Fans hire brokers to help them find the tickets they want for the price they can pay or to resell tickets they can’t use. … Fans should have the right to buy and sell the tickets they want without having to RSVP their guests or risk cancellation based on new, arbitrary rules,” the National Association of Ticket Brokers said in a statement. “They’re changing the rules in the middle of the game, and it’s only going to hurt the fans who can’t find tickets, or are stuck with ones they can’t use.”

But for Brooks and Wynn, who noted during a press conference that the singer was “very insistent” on keeping the $125 tickets off the secondary market, the strict policies are an absolute necessity.

“They say they are representing the fans?” Wynn told the Sun. “Well, Garth Brooks and I don’t think so. Scalpers were selling tickets online for $700 the day of sale. Garth wants to protect his fans, and I’m with him. We don’t want them exploited. The price is $125, and nobody but us and Garth Brooks are going to make money.”

Glad I am not a fan of this man.  He obviously is control fanatic.   Look at the hoops he is making his FANS jump through to see him.  Remember it is all about CONTROL, with this man.    Barf  (yes BARF)  has friend in low places and that is obvious (to stoop so low to control who sees you and provide names of people in your party).    Have fun paying for" the plane,  the plane".

Will take my raunchy rockers like AC/DC, Rolling Stones, they may charge, but not control fanatics.  ROCK ON!!!

The new ticket policy is also being used  by Ticketmaster.at some places and are set to increase the policy to more venues in the coming month. I  tried to get just one ticket and was not able, Will try again on the new round of shows.  I think they should limit just 2 tickets per credit card order in a 24 hour period

Although the shows have sold out so has Garth.  I guess he's forgotten or just doesn't care that the working person can't afford $125 a ticket .  Even if the show was free I wouldn't want to see him without a band behind him.   Entire shows with just him and his guitar playing songs that are meant to be played with a band will be boring.

At one time Garth wanted to make all of his shows affordable to everyone. Now he has sold out to the devil himself AKA Wynn!

good for garth brooks and steve wynn!  Its about high time these singers start talking control and caring about what happens with tickets to their shows. Its nice to see someone concerned about their fans not being ripped off, rather than just seeing us as dollar signs.

Of course, these policies would not work in large venues, unfortunately.

I am suprised that it took this long for "them" to figure out that we ~ as concert attendees ~ are just cattle, we have no rights, and now they are going to exploit every angle they can to keep the cash in their hands.

Bravo capitalism...until the bombs start going off.

What a joke.  Maybe if the scalpers didn't snalp up all of the tickets fans would not have to "hire" them.  Scalping needs to be made illegal across the board.

I honestly don't see the problem with this.  If it helps decrease scalpers, and I don't see how it doesn't, then that's great.  People complain because it's so hard to get tickets to concerts and that they sell out so quickly.  One of the reasons they sell out so quickly is because scalpers are buying so many of the tickets right off the bat.  This definitely gives the fans a chance to get the tix before they get jacked up by scalpers.

Ticket price aside - this isn't about what the original price is, anyway, it's about how much the ticket price increases by scalpers - this story is about avoiding fans having to buy tix from scalpers.  If you go to any of shows on the strip, ticket prices are around $125, give or take twenty bucks.

I am A fan in low places and I am darn glad that something is being done to stop ticket bandits. For them to charge 3x the amount or more of the face value is ROBBERY. My hats is of  to Wynn / Brooks for putting their foot down and any other artist or venue that follows.

I am not a fan of scalpers or anything, but one time when I had tickets and was unable to attend due to illness, I was happy to be able to resell my tickets to someone else and get my money back. Not only that, but I've had several instances where, as a young adult with young adult friends, sometimes plans change. We all aren't able to go so there I'm left with an extra ticket, or two extra tickets, either that or someone fills their spot. I'd hate to have to come up and be like "oh it was supposed to be john smith but now josh schmidt came instead... is that ok?" and then be told "no, it's not ok. NONE of you can come in."

guess that's why i'm not seeing Garth Brooks.
