Date of Concert: 11/10/2002 | Location: Uncasville, CT

It was a rainy dreary Sunday, November 10, 2002, but all of those thoughts disappeared around 8:15 when the lights burst on and Tim McGraw and his band The Dancehall Doctors opened their long awaited concert at Mohegan Sun with “Sing eHome” (which is bound to be an excellent opener, and on his self-titled eighth album to be released November 26, 2002 courtesy of Curb Records.) The opening band, The Warren Brothers held the fans over with a short acoustic set and quick wit stating that they were the “Kato Kaelin’s of the McGraw family”, and that The lead singer didn’t care if Tim’s Wife Faith Hill checked him out through the peephole in a shower on a certain tour stop. Their set featured some songs from their first two albums including two song from their album that is in the works and a cover of Dobie Gray’s classic hit, “Drift Away”. Then came the main attraction. Tim began in usual opening fashion, which is to let your band take the stage first, then, appear suddenly on the stage right as the lyrics to the first song kick in. His star power obviously preceded him, as he needed nothing more than a “Hi, I’m Tim McGraw…” after the third song to get his fans, especially the female portion of the crowd reaching for their highest vocal octaves. The crowd had their first chance to be heard on the second song played, which is his most recent #1 hit, “Unbroken”. From there he broke into several of his Greatest Hits, including Indian Outlaw, which got one of the biggest crowd reactions of the night. McGraw ended up playing 5 songs of the up and coming album, all of which sounded polish and received crowd reactions ample to his Greatest Hits. The songs played off the new album included his current single “Red Ragtop” and his soon to be released single “She’s My Kind of Rain”(which promises to be a smash). McGraw followed the new songs up with “I Like it, Love it”, which Tim pulled both his sister and Country Sensation Billy Gillman up on stage to sing parts of the chorus. Each song that McGraw sang sounded as polished as they appeared on the original albums and each was sang with such emotion that drew the crowd into each individual song one at a time. Tim gave constant thanks to the fans, and his band for his success, which is always somewhat trite, but nonetheless true. He ended his encore, with his recent, but already classic anthem, “The Cowboy in Me”. After the final lyrics….. “I guess that’s just the cowboy In us all”, Tim allowed his band, The Dancehall Doctors to jam for about ten minutes while he signed autographs and shook fans hands. It was an interesting but inventive way to end a concert, making the whole experience an unforgettable one. The way out was a mob scene including fans fighting over the last of his merchandise. This concert concluded a successful promotion of “Set this Circus Down” (another multi-platinum effort from Tim and his band). And as the concert finally cleared out, the roars, of “what a show”, and “Tim is the man” echoed through the casino of Mohegan Sun, and left ten thousand fans in anticipation and wondering what’s next for his 2003 Tour.
